Recently, we had the great fortune to spend a few days in Kihei, Maui, taking a little break from writing. While there, we stayed right next to the Kihei food oasis, a collection of top-notch food carts nestled among palm trees with lights and tiki torches and live music. A quick search for “vegan food near me” brought back a bunch of results (hooray!) including my own personal kryptonite — poutine. It was one of the many offerings at Howzit, Eh?, an amazing Canadian food cart right there on the sunny edge of paradise. It was truly amazing. They used seasoned, grilled tofu instead of cheese curds, which was a solid choice, topped with a yummy, onion-forward gravy all over a bed of crisp fries and drizzled with truffle oil. It was so good! We also had an excellent tofu Banh mi. It was on great bread, with plenty of veggies, some rice noodles and jalapenos. And, because it seems we always order too much on vacation, we also got an edamame chopped crunch salad. It had tons of nice, fresh veggies, toasted almonds, crispy wontons, and a delicious sesame cashew maple (of course) lime dressing. Sadly, we never got back to try the vegan tofu udon bowl. Maybe next time. It’s worth pointing out that there are lots of options for the non-vegans, too, including traditional poutine, a kalua pork version and a loco moco variation. Truly an unexpected culinary highlight of the trip — fresh, delicious and satisfying — and all for a reasonable price. Oh Canada!

This place has amazing fish n chips and banh mi sandwiches. Hit this place three times on our five day stay, cause they're that good. We've had banh mi in Vietnam and Howzit Eh! does it to perfection. The fish n chips are enough for two people, and I loved the fried pickles. Howzit Eh! is a great option for a low $ meal.

Great option in the food truck oasis. We had the edamame chopped salad and a vegan bahn mi sandwich that was on special. Both were great. Would definitely come back to try the rest of the varied menu, including the poutine.

We ordered online through DoorDash for pick up. So easy and was ready when it said. We got the sliders, fish and chips & cheese curds. Cheese curds were amazing. The drizzle they put on those cheese curds really makes those amazing. Sliders were cooked perfect and were also delicious. Fish and chips cooked perfect and their homemade tartar sauce slaps!! Fish and chips comes with fried pickles. They weren’t my favorite but they were good. We will be back to try some other items on the menu before we leave.

Many options from healthy salads to French fries and poutines. Great for families with picky eating kids they got some options and some unique dishes for adults.
